Garber criticises faculty activism, argues Harvard went wrong and is restoring classroom objectivity and debate
Harvard President Alan M. Garber said the university erred by allowing faculty activism to shape classroom teaching, arguing it discouraged debate and free speech. Speaking on the Identity/Crisis Podcast, Garber linked politicised instruction after the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel to antisemitism and social exclusion. He outlined efforts to restore neutrality through policy changes, orientation reforms and clearer protest rules. The remarks followed the extension of his presidency and ongoing federal pressure on campus.
